We are 8 weeks in! I feel my blog may be sporadic in timing as it turns out running a nursery keeps you fairly busy!
I’d like to take the opportunity to say thanks to our team. Every day I am met with enthusiasm, ideas, ideas, ideas, research, innovation, reflection and usually a shopping request. I was always aware that a good team was integral to the success of our nursery but now we are up and running I feel it every day.
We have had quite a journey so far. We have all attended the Tiptoes conference and I really see the difference attending thought provoking conferences can make as our practice is already changing. Ruaridh attended the ACE aware nation conference and we are excited to see his presentation about the day.
Our children are feeling more and more at home with us. You can see this in their changing interactions and in their play. As a Speech and Language Therapist I used to get a glimpse into a child’s life and who they were. In our nursery I am able to really understand who they are and it is fascinating.
We have a few up coming events which I am very excited about. The first of which is our ‘Mini Music Masterclass’, 22nd October 10am-12 midday. This will be an informal session led by local music teacher Alice Gentenaar and is suitable for children 0-5years and their care givers. We look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you to everyone who came along to our open days. It was great to show so many people round our newly renovated nursery and receive such amazing feedback. It was lovely to see all the children who came along enjoying the play spaces we have created. Some areas which were especially popular with the children were the caravan playhouse, the cable drum slide, the construction area and the sensory room. We will be opening mid August 2018 and are looking forward to children joining us soon. We are not charging a registration fee for sign ups in August and September 2018 so if you would like a registration form or would like to come in and view the nursery please get in contact!
Hi and welcome to The Nurture Nursery newsletter!
We finally own our building!!! We will be based in the old Barnardo’s headquarters on Mid Street. Some people may know this as Melbourne house or previously Red Cross House. This was no mean feet after a year of negotiation and planning but we finally have the keys in hand and can move forward with our plans to open The Nurture Nursery. Since we got the keys we have taken on my brother, Euan, to help organise and plan the business side of things and also help with clearing out the building.
Finding this building was somewhat fortuitous. I had recently moved back to Bathgate with my then 16 month old. I was planning my way back to work and so my sister, Emma, and I set out to look for premises for a children’s nursery. Initially we looked in Edinburgh but I was keen to explore Bathgate as an option. Finding premises suitable for a nursery can be very challenging and so when Melbourne house went up for sale we both felt it seemed like a good fit. It is actually where I began my career working with children at Barnardo’s playscheme as a volunteer whilst I was still at school. I think I like to look for signs from the universe, which may not be the best way to approach a new business (!) but something clicked with the building, the feel of the grounds, and the story.
Having been back in Bathgate for over a year now I am reminded how friendly and approachable the community here is. My daughter an I have been welcomed back into old friendships and formed new links with the parents and toddlers of the town with ease and so I feel very happy and confident that Bathgate is the place The Nurture Nursery should grow.
